Is This You?

Do you feel stuck, on edge, like you're hanging by a thread, walking on eggshells or carrying more than you can name?

Maybe you're exhausted from managing everyone else's needs and unsure where your own begin.  Or perhaps the thought of conflict makes your stomach drop, so you say yes when you mean no, or stay quiet about something that matters.  Maybe you can see the problem clearly in other people's lives but can't quite locate it in your own.

You might tell yourself it isn't bad enough to bring to therapy.  That nothing really bad ever happened to you, or someone else needs the appointment more than you do.  That you should be able to handle this on your own by now.

Nobody taught you how to recognise what you need, or how to ask for it without feeling guilty or selfish.  That isn't a flaw in you - it's a pattern you learned, probably a long time ago, for very good reason.

A Quiet Check-in

You don't need a diagnosis to know something is off.  Does any of this sound familiar?

  • You find yourself comparing your struggles to other people's and deciding yours don't count

  • You avoid conflict, even when something matters to you, because rejection feels unbearable

  • You give far more than you receive in your relationships

  • You know what you should do, but freeze when it's time to actually do it

  • You feel like you're always managing everyone else and never quite arriving at yourself

  • You sense that your reactions are bigger than the situation, and you don't know why

  • You often feel like the world's against you

  • You've never said some of this out loud to another person

If several of these sound familiar, you're not alone in this and there's nothing wrong with you for feeling this way.  I can help.

Change

What's really happening

What feels like low self-esteem, conflict avoidance or 'overreacting' is often a person who never got to practice a different way of relating to themselves or others - until now.

You may be treating things that happened to you, or around you as things that are wrong with you. Family dynamics, difficult relationships, loss or simply years of putting yourself last can all shape the way you respond to the world, long after the original situation has passed.

You may fear that this is just who you are.  It isn't.  It's a pattern, and patterns can be changed.

You don't have to stay stuck like this

You are not to blame for the ways you learned to survive difficult relationships, family dynamics or loss, but you can choose to do something different about what happens next.

How change starts

Most people arrive expecting to talk about the problem 'out there' such as the situation, the other person, the thing that happened.  In my experience, what tends to help most is turning attention towards your relationship with yourself: your patterns, how you interpret things, what you tell yourself, where you spend your energy.

That shift matters because it hands you back a sense of control.  You start to see clearly what is genuinely yours to work with, and what was never yours to carry, and you stop spending energy on the things you can't change.

This isn't about having the right words or a tidy explanation for what's troubling you.  Most of my clients don't arrive with one, and they don't need one.  Untangling things takes time and patience, one thread at a time, together.

Who you can become

Understanding yourself isn't about fixing something broken.  It's about recognising that the places that hurt the most are often where change and growth become possible.

Imagine recognising your own needs - for space, for rest, for respect, for help - and knowing how to ask for it without fear.

It starts by noticing when you're spending energy on something you can't control and gently redirecting it towards what you can.

Some clients report feeling calmer in their mind and body, more present in their days, and less governed by what might go wrong.

Imagine building relationships where you don't shrink or disappear to keep the peace.

This isn't out of reach.  It's what tends to happen, gradually, when you have the space to do this work properly.

What you may begin to notice

Many clients begin to experience:

  • More ease naming what they feel and less fear of the consequences of feeling it

  • A clearer sense of what's theirs to control and permission to let go of everything else

  • Better boundaries, saying no without guilt, and yes without resentment

  • Calmer, steadier days feeling more present rather than anticipating what might go wrong

  • Improved sleep and a more settled nervous system

  • Stronger, more honest relationships, including the ones with themselves

If you're ready to stop carrying this alone I'd like to hear from you
